Chris Weidman has been in a total of five UFC championship bouts but he has never faced pressure going into a fight like he will on October 19.

What Happens If He Loses?
If Chris Weidman can not pull out a win over the up-and-coming Reyes it could be the last chance to make a case for another championship fight. Furthermore, it wouldn't be outlandish to suggest that a TKO or KO loss could cause the 35 year-old to leave his gloves in the octagon and call it a career. Weidman has definitely not looked as good as his former self in his past several bouts losing four out of his last five bouts - the referee was forced to step in during all four defeats. Every time he steps into the cage Weidman seems as if a piece of him has been left behind, this is understandable considering the career Weidman has led up until this point. Weidman has dealt out, as well as been on the receiving end of devastating knockouts, he has battled through grueling five-round fights, sustained injuries and undergone many surgeries during his tenure with the UFC. If Chris Weidman loses, don't be surprised to see the former champ retire and see Dominick Reyes to use this victory to springboard him into a championship fight.

What Happens If He Wins?
Although a potential retirement could be the result of of Chris Weidman loss, a win could bring something completely different - a shot at the belt. For the most part the top players in light-heavyweight division are either coming off losses or have already fell to the hands of reigning 205 lb. champ Jon Jones. This means that an impressive win for someone with Weidman's history (former champion) could be enough to secure a championship shot regardless of recent losses. This fight is all the more marketable due to Weidman's dethroning of Anderson Silva who was considered the G.O.A.T. at the time, similarly to how Jon Jones is viewed today. The interesting thing about Weidman's move up to 205 lbs. is that we've never seen him at that weight, perhaps a less depleted body from an easy weight cut could restore his chin and increase his speed and power. If Weidman can takeout Dominick Reyes in Boston then he would be a shoo-in to challenge for that 205 championship belt next.
